The Nazi leader was offered a statue if he helped Poland solve the 'Jewish question'
Poland’s pre-war ambassador to Berlin promised Hitler a “beautiful statue in Warsaw”, if he helped solve the country’s “Jewish question”, a German historian has alleged.
In his new book “The Enemy in the East” Rolf-Dieter Mueller also says Germany sought a military alliance with Poland against the Soviet Union, hoping to capitalise on Polish mistrust of the communist state and growing anti-Semitism within Poland.
Mr Mueller writes there was “from today’s perspective a gruesome willingness on both sides to co-operate” when it came to dealing with the Jews, but stresses at the time plans amounted only to emigration.
