22,000 Polish officers and soldiers were shot dead in Katyn
The Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) received 11 new files containing information on the Katyn massacre this week.
The documents were sent from Moscow to Warsaw in April this year and means the total number of files held by the IPN regarding the massacre now amounts to 148 out of a reported 183, with the remaining files waiting to be declassified by Moscow officials.
The IPN has been trying to get its hands on the documents for years in order to carry out its own independent investigation and research into the massacre which saw an estimated 22,000 Polish officers and soldiers killed and buried in mass graves under orders from Joseph Stalin in 1940. ...
