An increasing number of Poles are being caught speeding abroad
Polish drivers are racking up record numbers of speeding tickets abroad as they make their way across the highways and byways of Europe.
Official figures published in the newspaper Rzeczpospolita reveal that more and more Poles face fines for excessive speed and other driving misdemeanours. In 2009 the combined number for 10 European countries came to around 10,000 tickets issued to Poles, but last year the figure jumped to close to 13,000.
Popular destinations for bad driving appear to be Austria and Germany with 2,177 and 1,975 cases reported respectively. In contrast in the Czech Republic only 122 Poles faced some form of driving sanction.
