“We were attacked. We were told to get off the land because we didn’t have the right to build here.”
A farmer from the village of Widow ended up battling police after he tried to block the passage of machinery into his field to erect an electricity pylon. When the investor arrived on Tuesday morning, workers found the entrance to the field blocked by the farmer in his blue Mercedes. Eventually they were forced to call in police. From there, the opposing sides have different explanations of the course of events.Acoording to Bialystok police press officer Andrzej Baranoski, “He was informed that he was breaking the law and asked to drive away. He didn’t follow those instructions. He reversed into a police officer, then refused to get out of his car, so we had to use force against him.”
