23 percent of Poles have been living in 'poverty' over the last two years
A new study suggests that approximately 8.7 million Poles have been living below the breadline throughout the country for the last two years.
The figures, put together by the Central Statistical Office (GUS), are made even worse given the fact that an estimated 2.2 million of these are thought to have lived in ‘abject poverty’ - a term, according to the Institute of Labour and Social Affairs which applies to any family with monthly outgoings amounting to less than PLN 1,257 (figures from last year).
