Donald Tusk and Radek Sikorski came in for a torrid time as Poland paused to mark the 67th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising, one of the most hallowed dates in the Polish calendar.

The prime minister was subject to whistles and boos as he laid flowers at a monument for the fallen in a Warsaw cemetery while the foreign minister came under assault for describing the Uprising as a “national catastrophe” on his Twitter page.

General Zbigniew Scibor-Rylskim, president of the Association of Warsaw Insurgents and one of the organisers of the official ceremonies at the Powazki cemetery, had called for the dead to be respected following an outbreak of booing at last year’s ceremony. But hi ...
