Wisla's hopes of being the first Polish team to grace the CL crumbled due to a late goal
Poland’s 15 year wait for representation in the group phases of the Champions League continues as Wisla failed spectacularly in Nicosia this Tuesday evening. The general consensus is that, despite the heartbreak of the last minute defeat - Wisla had one foot in the group phase until the 87 minute - overall the Poles simply weren’t good enough and Apoel were worthy winners.
Above all, Wisla’s Estonian goalkeeper Sergei Pareiko endured a personal nightmare, spilling the ball into his own net at a corner after Malecki deflected it goalwards.
