While retail sales have risen, they are not as high as predicted
Polish retailers have been left with mixed feelings as last month total sales rose by 8.2 percent compared to the same period in 2010.
However the statistics, released by the Central Statistical Office (GUS) and published on TVN24, are in fact lower than predicted - with many experts and economists stating that they expect to see total retail sales rise by 10.5 percent by the end of the year.
According to Maja Goettig, chief economist of Bank BPH, there are a number of reasons for the lower than expected figures.
“The first reason is a ‘moderate’ labour market situation, where it is difficult to see any actual improvement,” she said.
