The long-awaited privatization of the national carrier LOT looks to be under way, as the company’s president, Marcin Pirog, told reporters there were candidates interested in purchasing the airline. “We’re holding talks with two aviation companies about the sale of LOT,” Pirog told reporters. He refused to be drawn on who the companies were, but promised more details would be forthcoming in the near future.

The news comes as a confirmation of earlier assurances given in May by government minister Aleksander Grad that there was a chance that LOT could be privatized during 2012. “This privatization will above all be about increasing the company’s capital, so that it has the funds ...
