Police are investigating a man who shot dead his wife on a hunting trip after he claimed he mistook her for an animal.

Reports in Gazeta Wyborcza state that the 40-year-old from Krakow was hunting in the southwest town of Niemcza when he saw the outline emerging from behind a bush. But he failed to see that it was in fact three people, one of which being his wife, who died on the spot despite attempts to resuscitate her.

The man was sober and had all the relevant licenses for the gun. ...
