The drivers were protesting after promised pay rises were scrapped
Taxi drivers in Warsaw staged a protest Thursday morning against what they claim is a failure by the local council to go ahead with pre-promised wage increases.
According to TVN24, the protest was planned to coincide with Europe’s ‘Day Without Cars’ when car owners across the continent are encouraged to use public transport for one day instead of driving.
Taxi drivers met up at five separate points dotted around the city, then made their way collectively to the Palace of Culture and Science. However, reports on the news site state they returned home disappointed, claiming that, at best, the city’s authorities only “became familiar” with their aims.
