Polish fans celebrated as if they had won the gold
Poland’s volleyballers won a bronze medal in the European Championships third-place play-off against Russia, the victory over their huge neighbour bringing a joy only slightly less than if they had won the entire tournament.
“This bronze medal is as valuable to us as the gold. Half the team had never taken part in a tournament of this importance, but we showed a lot of character to take third,” commented one of the senior members, Piotr Gruszka at a press conference at Okecie airport on their return.
