Police recovered a letter written by the man taped to a nearby bench
A former tax office employee set himself on fire outside the prime minister’s office last Friday following repeated attempts to bring attention to what he believed to be corruption in Poland.
Although 49-year-old Andrzej Z. is expected to survive, questions are now being raised over his motives after it turns out he was fired from his job due to reporting “irregularities” to the finance ministry and asking the government’s anti-corruption expert Julia Pitera to investigate.
It was also revealed Andrzej Z. had previously written a number of letters to Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski lamenting corruption in Poland.
