Poznań may be heading for early elections after its popular mayor, Ryszard Grobelny, received a suspended 16-month prison sentence for subjecting the city to a loss of PLN 7 million through negligence in resolving a real estate tender. Grobelny plans to appeal against the decision, but if it is upheld he will automatically lose his mandate.
