PM Donald Tusk and senior party figures celebrate as exit polls are announced
Donald Tusk made history by becoming the first Polish prime minister of the post communist era to be elected to consecutive terms after his Civic Platform party swept to a comprehensive victory in last weekend's parliamentary elections.
Civic Platform (PO) scotched speculation that Law and Justice (PiS), the main opposition party, might force a tight race by running out easy winners, scooping 39.18 percent of the vote, almost 10 percent more PiS’s 29.89.
The news of victory was greeted with joy by PO members, who chanted the prime minister’s name as he punched the air in triumph.
