There was sad news this week following reports that the last surviving Polish Battle of Britain fighter pilot passed away, aged 97.

Born in 1914 in Warsaw, wing commander Tadeusz Sawicz was first recruited into the army, however he eventually joined the Air Force Cadet Officer School in the western town of Deblin, where he was trained up as a pilot.

Sawicz is best remembered for flying a Hurricane in the legendary No 303 Squadron, however, according to daily Fakt, he also served in a number of other Squadrons including No 302, No 308 and No 315 throughout his successful and eventful career.
