There were dramatic scenes on Tuesday afternoon as a LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 767 was forced to make an emergency crash landing on its belly after a hydraulic fault knocked out its undercarriage.

Watched by television cameras and hundreds of fearful onlookers, the airliner carrying 231 passengers and crew slid to a halt on the tarmac at Warsaw’s Okecie airport with sparks and flames flying from one of its engines.

Once on the ground the Boeing’s emergency chutes were deployed and passengers scrambled to safety as waiting fire engines sprayed the hapless aircraft with foam.
