A boost for Biedronka

Jeronimo Martins is looking to expand its Biedronka chain
Portuguese group Jeronimo Martins, owner of low-cost supermarket Biedronka, intends to pump PLN 6.9 bln into the chain between 2012-2014.
According to reports on TVN24’s business section, the investment will be purely devoted to helping develop the network of stores around the nation, which, last year alone, turned over approximately PLN 20 bln.
There are currently 1,700 Biedronka shops in Poland, but Jeronimo Martins claims that by the end of 2014, it hopes to have opened an additional 850 up and down the country with an aim to bring the total up to 3,000 by the end of the following year.
During this period, it is also expected that seven new distribution centres will be opened.
