The LOT crew that crash landed a Boeing 767 without its landing gear have been decorated by President Bronislaw Komorowski in a special ceremony in Warsaw.
Reflecting the respect and adulation that has turned Captain Tadeusz Wrona and his crew into heroes in their native land, the president bestowed upon the captain the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, while Jerzy Szwarc, his second officer, received the Knight’s Cross.
The citation said they had been decorated for “outstanding achievements in the service of the state and society; for their professionalism and exemplary attitude in the face of threats to human life.”
