Lech face a long hard season if they fail to win their next few games
Lech Poznan are facing a desperate battle to qualify for the European trophies next season with failure not an option. “If we don’t qualify for Europe this season, it will be a tragedy,” commented Lech’s Vice-Chairman, Arkadiusz Kasprzak. The tragedy will not only be in a sporting sense but also financial. “A second year without international games would lead to problems with the club’s functioning at the level to which we have become accustomed,” Kasprzak admitted.
After a bad run of matches Lech lies fourth in the table, but with a big gap to the leaders. Anything less than maximum points from the last three matches in the first half of the season, against Widzew, LKA and Zaglebie, and the second half of the season may be meaningless from the point of view of the Poznan team.
