Gas prices look set to increase at the beginning of 2012 according to reports in Rzeczpospolita.

The paper states that the Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) has proposed a “double digit increase”, however this is being met by opposition from a number of energy firms.

In addition to exact figures being uncertain, a question mark hangs over the duration of the rises.

“The application has been filed for the first quarter of 2012,” says President of the Energy Regulations Office (URE), Marek Woszczyk. “But it’s still unclear whether this will continue after that period.”
