Parliament Passes Lisbon Treaty

After a heated debate, both houses of Parliament passed a bill authorising the president to ratify the Lisbon Treaty reforming the European Union this week. The fate of the bill, and with it Poland’s standing in the EU, hung on a thread until the last minute as the conservative Law and Justice party (PiS), which was instrumental in signing the treaty in first place, could not decide whether to support its ratification.
