The search is on for the bunker system's new owner
Hitler’s infamous military headquarters the ‘Wolf’s Lair’ is currently looking for a new tenant it was reported this week.
The previous agreement for the bunker system, located in the north-western town of Ketrzyn, has now expired and Poland’s ‘National Forestry’ organisation is currently on the lookout for someone else to step in.
However, the new agreement must be for 20 years and is not available to the general public, state reports on TVN24. In addition to this, the tenant is required to pump in a minimum of PLN 470,000 per year into the bunkers to help improve the level of tourism.
Interested parties should also note that the organisation expects a certain amount of renovation in order to bring the tourist attraction up-to-date with the modern age.
“We are looking at modernising both the hotel and the restaurant there,” says forester Zenon Piotrowicz. “In addition to this, we want to restore both the cinema hall and the main exhibition.”
Hitler used the Wolf’s Lair between June 1941 - November 1944 and is believed to have spent a total of 800 days there during the period. Each year, the military barracks helps bring in 180-200 thousand tourists to the area.
