Sales in book stores are dropping
The sale of books throughout Poland dropped last year by 8 percent state reports this week.
According to Gazeta Wyborcza, this drop is partly down to the increase of VAT where a transitional period before the 5 percent rate began led to confusion amongst sellers.
Sales of text books for schools also dropped, as more students choose to photocopy the parts which they need as oppose to purchasing the entire book for themselves.
In addition to this, book prices rose last year by as much as 12 percent, with the average book now costing approximately PLN 38.40.
“The likes of maps and encyclopaedias have witnessed the large drop in sales as people choose to get this kind of information over the Internet,” says Lukasz Golebiewska, president of Analysis Library.
