The budget has been slammed by opposition parties
Today will see Poland’s politicians vote on the country’s latest budget, and already there have been huge disputes.
With political opponents calling for 370 amendments to be made, Law and Justice (PiS) MP Beata Szydlo has hit out at the draft’s second reading claiming it to be “unrealistic”.
“These budget proposals, ladies and gentlemen, are unrealistic and you know this very well,” she said.
However, reports on TVN claim that Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski has hit back at the party stating “I would like to apologise to members of Law and Justice. I always thought this was the most populist PiS party to be represented in the Sejm. It turns out I was wrong. I’m very sorry.”
But the draft has also come under fire from the Palikot Movement (RP), which has called for 201 amendments alone.
RP’s Slawomir Kopycinski criticised it as a “stagnation budget” and “cowardly”, claiming that it “hit the pockets of polish drivers”.
Following on from calls last week by the Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) that the Institute of National Remembrance (IPN) be abolished, RP has also asked for a cut for the amount of funding proposed by the budget.
