The swan has now been taken in by the mayor
The mayor of the southern village of Mstow became something of a cult hero this week after he decided to take a rescued swan in under his roof.
Firefighters from nearby Czestochowa were called to the bird’s aid - the second they have been required to help so far this winter.
“The poor swan’s feet and feathers were caught in the ice. We managed to break the ice from the pond and eventually freed the bird from its trap,” said a spokesman for the fire service.
The swan has since been taken in by the local mayor while it is decided if he is to return to the wild, or be moved on to a sanctuary.
