Four-year-old Artur from Lobzenica escaped death this Monday morning when he jumped from his bedroom window only to be caught by a passer-by. “He put one leg on the window ledge, then the other. Then he jumped. He landed right in my arms,” related Patrycja Piszczek. Thanks to her quick reactions, Artur escaped with just a few grazes.

“I’d just got out of the car, because I was going to work as normal. A pupil’s mother was waiting for me in the car park and we were chatting. Suddenly we heard a child crying. We looked up and a boy was standing in the window. He was crying, ‘Mummy! Mummy!’, so we ran towards him,” Patrycja Piszczek, who works as a speech therapist in the school next to Artur’s home, told reporters.

“I called the emergency services, but when they asked me which service I required, I didn’t know which one to ask for. I said I didn’t know if the boy was going to jump or not, but he did,” she continued.

“Prosecutors have established that no adults were at home at the time of the incident” explained Tomasz Wojciechowski for Pila police. The boy’s mother had, in fact, popped to the school next door to her house with Artur’s 5-year-old brother. As well as Artur, his 2-year-old brother was also unattended in the house. “The children were asleep. I thought I’d be back in under ten minutes,” the boy’s mother told reporters.

Mystery mugging

Poznan police are investigating an incident in which a businessman was mugged in a car park and robbed of a backpack containing PLN 700,000. The robbery took place last Friday afternoon and though police are keeping the details are confidential it is understood the victim is a businessman involved in precious metals.

The man apparently travelled to a bank in the centre of Poznan to collect the cash which he stuffed into a backpack. He claims that when he returned to his car, he was assaulted and beaten up, before the robber made off.

The scene of the crime is not covered by CCTV cameras, but the struggle was apparently seen by a witness. Detectives are testing several theories, including the possible involvement of bank employees, as the businessman had to inform the bank in advance he was withdrawing such a large sum.
