Winter has helped boost clothing sales across the country
The harsh winter that has recently gripped the nation has had a positive effect on retail sales it was reported this week.
According to Parkiet, in a bid to fend off the cold, Poles have been flocking to clothes shops in order to purchase piles of warm winter clothing.
One retailer that has noticed a large increase in sales is sporting giant Intersport. The chain witnessed a 20 percent increase in stock prices this week and saw its sales increase last month by almost 30 percent to hit PLN 27 mln.
“I must admit, this winter weather certainly favours us, but it must be emphasised that weather like this is normal in January and February,” says Artur Mikolajko, the chain’s president.
“Whether or not this has been our best February is difficult to say,” he states, adding that the sales growth seen during this month year on year is the same as the growth witnessed in January.
It is also believed that the increase in sales will continue into next month. “It looks likely that the snow will stay in the mountains and customers usually buy equipment for skiing holidays at the last minute.”
