Beleaguered Ombudsman for Children Ewa Sowińska resigned her post on Tuesday, ending several months of manoeuvres by the governing coalition to remove her from office. Sowińska, originally nominated by the far-right League of Polish Families (LPR) first came into the political limelight by suggesting that homosexuals should be barred from certain professions. She then followed this up with comments that the Teletubbies children’s programme contained homosexual propaganda because one of them carried a handbag.
