Poland-Germany: A Better Defeat

Most Polish football fans were quick to describe Sunday’s defeat by Germany as inevitable, and thanks to Silesian-born Lukas Podolski it certainly looked that way. But there’s also a different atmosphere – on a better day it might even pass for optimism – about Polish fans this year. Leo Beenhakker has certainly wrought a change in the football mindset here, at least for a moment – and it would be hard to find anyone who wasn’t looking forward to Thursday’s game against Austria.
