Poland’s financial watchdog this week approved General Electric's takeover of what is left of bank BPH after its much-disputed takeover by Bank Pekao and its Italian owner, UniCredit. This means BPH can merge with powerful mortgage bank GE Money. Józef Wancer, the man who built BPH in the first place, has already announced he is staying on to expand the branch network and make life uncomfortable for the sector’s leaders.
