Kwaśniewski Denies Nord Stream Support

Former President Aleksander Kwaśniewski denied that he threw his support behind the controversial Nord Stream pipeline project to bring gas from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea, saying that German journalists from the derwesten.de had misinterpreted his statement. The site quoted Kwaśniewski as saying that Poland should join the Nord Stream project to help secure its energy supplies. However, on Thursday the former president told the daily Rzeczpospolita that he had only meant that Poland should join the project only if it could not derail it.
