Exeter Rapist Returned to Poland

British authorities have returned Jakub Tomczak, a Poznań native convicted of raping and causing grievous bodily harm to a 48-year-old Exeter woman, to serve two consecutive life sentences in a Polish prison. Tomczak’s return has posed an unprecedented problem for Polish authorities, as Poland is obliged to honour the British court’s decision, but the law here provides a maximum of 12 years’ imprisonment for rape.
