Child killer set to walk free

A convicted paedophile and child killer is set to walk free from jail on Tuesday despite a last minute attempt by the government to have him sent to a secure unit while court proceedings continue.

Mariusz Trynkiewicz was convicted of the rape and murder of four young boys in 1989. Although originally sentenced to death, this sentence was commuted to 25 years in gaol under an amnesty agreed by communist and opposition leaders later that year.
