Kaczynski explains Walesa ball snub

A ball organised by President Kaczynski to celebrate Poland’s 90th Anniversary of Independence on Sunday was missing 35 heads of state and was attended by less than 20 guests.

A ball organised by President Kaczynski to celebrate Poland’s 90th Anniversary of Independence on Sunday was missing 35 heads of state and was attended by less than 20 guests. One of the names most notably omitted was Lech Walesa, the man who pushed the country towards freedom in the 70’s and early 80’s.

Kaczynski said the reason for not inviting the former Solidarity leader was that: “I think it’s too much to expect me to sit down with someone who’s lied about me in such coarse and vulgar terms.”
