Thousands of demonstrators gathered in Poland’s capital to protest against a fall-off in state orders in the country’s arms industry and the number of job cuts within the industry.

The protesters, who carried banners, threw fireworks and burned tyres, were mobilised by the Solidarity trade union.

In order to try and tackle the current economic crisis, the government cut the yearly budget by PLN 19.7 bln last month.

The amount spent on armaments, and various other military equipment, has been slashed from PLN 4.7 bln to PLN 2.2 bln. ...
