The news from the Upper Slask area this week is a load of rubbish. The city has been awarded
PLN 57 mln from the European Cohesion fund for the construction of a 21st century rubbish
dump. The city has long been in need of new facilities and without the funding would have struggled to meet the increased EU regulations by the 2013 deadline. The funds are to be spent on a new sorting hall, a composting centre and warehouses for storing recyclable materials. Even better, an old part of the tip that has lain unused for years, will be reclaimed, soiled over and replanted, becoming a pleasant green island in a sea of waste.
