Govt. commits 'more troops' to Afghanistan campaign

The Polish government has decided to push ahead with plans to expand its 1,600-strong military presence in Afghanistan, but has yet to decide on just how many extra troops will go.

Apparently reversing a decision taken last month to halt further deployments owing to the cost-cutting induced by the economic recession, Defence Minister Bogdan Klich said that the extra troops would go to the province of Ghanzi in “late April or early May”.

“Following the president’s approval, I am preparing a bill on raising the size of the Polish contingent,” Mr Klich told reporters at a press conference in Warsaw. “I hope to put it before the cabinet soon, so the president can make a final decis ...
