Poland to create 17th province

Lech Kaczynski has stated that he believes Poland should create a new province, by separating the capital from central Mazovia.

According to the President, such administrative changes will be necessary after 2013 which will witness an entirely new system of EU distribution funds.

“So far we don’t know the rules for the division of structural funds, which will be introduced after 2013. They are likely to change, but it’s too soon to decide on the separation of Warsaw from Masovia,” stated Stanislaw Krakowski, at the ministry’s press office.

Poland currently has 16 provinces following an administrative reform in 1999.
