There was positive news for Poland’s hotel sector last month with Eurostat figures showing that room nights in Polish hotels increased by nearly 5% y-on-y in 2008. That is second only to Slovakia, while member states such as the UK, Spain, France and Ireland have seen a decrease in business since 2007.The news follows on from the Warsaw Tourist Office’s results for 2008 which show that the number of foreign visitors increased by over 30% in 2008 from 2007, and that they stayed, on average, 4.6 nights in the capital. These numbers helped soften the blow of a fall in tourist numbers to Krakow in 2008, which saw a drop of over 18% in visitor numbers in the same period.
