Lack of evidence is Sopot corruption case

A corruption scandal involving the mayor of Sopot and a local businessman could soon be dismissed due to lack of vital evidence. Mayor Jacek Karnowski is accused of trying to bribe local businessman, Slawomir Julke, into paying him money for permission to build an attic on a tenement house owned by the Sopot businessman. But key evidence, a dictaphone recording made by Julke which he claims is a recording of the mayor’s request for a bribe, has been destroyed by the businessman, reports RMF FM radio. This leaves the prosecutor’s office in Sopot with only a copy, which it says may not be admissible in court as evidence. That means the mayor could go unpunished.
