Sikorski’s bid for Russia to join NATO is turned down, by Moscow

Poland has taken a step to ease tensions with Moscow with its Foreign Minister, Radek Sikorski, suggesting that Russia should become a NATO member.

Speaking at an academic conference in Poland, Mr Sikorski, who in the past has been a fierce critic of the Kremlin, said that the Europe needed Russian involvement.

“We need Russia for the resolution of European and global problems. That is why I think it would be good for Russia to join NATO," Mr Sikorski is quoted as saying by the newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza.
