Stars get higher compensation pay outs than injury victims

A court ruling is supposed to discourage others from violating a celebrity’s privacy. If the court awards a low amount, it will only encourage other tabloids to interfere in the celebrity’s private life

Celebrities claiming compensation for unauthorised publication of paparazzi photos can receive up to 10 times more than victims of medical malpractice, miscarriages of justice or car accidents, a report in this week’s Rzeczpospolita claims.


According to the paper, people left handicapped or injured as a result of a car accident can receive up to PLN 5,000 in compensation; a person wrongly accused and jailed for 3 months can claim up to PLN 2,000.

But celebrities who find photos of themselves splashed over the tabloids claim up to ten times this and sometimes more, says the report.
