Poland is to receive 196 US Patriot missiles and 100 US soldiers permanently in situ by the end of this year, regardless of whether America goes ahead with its original plans, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said Thursday.
According to a report by the Polish Press Agency, work on the Patriot system will begin later this year, with a permanent garrison established by 2012, although the exact location still remains uncertain.
“All the signals we receive from the US confirm that regardless of what the American administration decides on the missile defence base, it will keep the accompanying agreement on Patriots in Poland,” Sikorski said.
