Patriot missiles are coming, but will they work?

Confusion has broken out over Poland’s plans to have a battery of American Patriot missiles installed on its soil by the end of the year.

A statement from Elizabeth Hibner, a Pentagon spokeswoman, said that the missiles intended for Poland would “be only for training and exercise purposes” and therefore would have no combat value if the country needed defending.

The comments came despite a bi-lateral agreement struck last year between Warsaw and the administration of George W Bush that allowed for the stationing of a Patriot battery plus 100 American troops in Poland.
