Money for love

The number of people getting married is on the up, but for mortgages rather than love, TVN24 reports this week.

A government policy entitled “A Family in its own Home” makes it easier for married couples to get mortgages from banks than it is for unmarried couples. In the city of Wroclaw alone, 100 out of 140 couples who tied the knot this year said they did so in order to get a loan for an apartment.

In some cases, the couples even filled out the bank paperwork before getting married, asking registry office officials if the date of their marriage could be speeded up so that they could get the money faster.
