The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage has proposed new legislation making it obligatory for web sites to register with the government, says a report in this week’s daily Rzeczpospolita.
The new bill says any internet site that updates or provides information on a regular basis should be classified as a press publication and, as such, will have to appoint an official editor and register itself with the government. If it does not then a fine will be imposed.
But the proposed amendment to the media law has run into criticism from legal experts and civil liberties organisations who say it threatens freedom of speech and fails to clarify what constitutes a ‘press publication. ...
