Record number of drunk drivers arrested

A record number of drunk drivers were stopped by police over last week’s long weekend, the Polish Press Agency (PAP) reported Monday.
Police say that in addition to the 2,683 people arrested whilst drunk at the wheel of their cars, 612 accidents were caused with 801 injuries and 65 fatalities.
“Despite repeated appeals, many drivers displayed an aggressive style of driving, broke speed limits, carelessly overtook other cars, and completely disregarded road safety,” a police spokesman said.
“Police forecasts proved true. More drunk drivers got behind the wheel. This is a record number arrested for driving after consuming alcohol,” he added.
