Polish museums not fire proof

Seventy-one percent of Poland’s museums do not protect their exhibits against fire, according to a report published by the Supreme Chamber of Control (NIK).

The audit, covering various institutions and museums, gave a positive review to only three with regards to the safety of their contents, stating that almost three-quarters did not have the necessary equipment to deal with a fire.

“These examples paint a picture of many years of neglect by the museums in terms of securing works. We will not accept the explanation that there is no money,” stated Grzegorz Buczynski, Director of the Department of Science, Education and Heritage at NIK.
