Poland left back Jakub Wawrzyniak has been slapped with a one year ban by FIFA after failing two drug tests while playing for Greek giants Panathanikos.Wawrzyniak, capped 14 times by the national side, claims to be the victim of an innocent misunderstanding: ‘I have been taking medicine to reduce fatty tissue’, claimed the fullback, ‘I did not know that it contained an illicit substance’. The ban, which will run until May 5, 2010, rules him out of competitive football the world over.
And there’s more bad news for the national team; the red and whites have dropped a further two places to 41st in the FIFA world rankings following their shoddy display in a pair of post-season frien ...
